i had no idea what category to put this in :O_o:

the poll has spoken, and people are actually more interested than i thought they would be to see my placenta.

this, ladies and gentlemen, is the wondrous and amazing organ i grew to make my little ethan. you can see the umbilical cord in the centre, surrounded by various blood vessels and things. its hard to believe this gooey looking thing attached my son to my body for 9 months, and also created his bellybutton! :giggle: and to top it all off, my midwife said it was the biggest placenta she had ever seen

and no, i didnt keep it. that would be to wierd even for me =P

lighting assistant=midwife

for those who stumble upon this and think 'WTF' i photographed this for my 7 year old as she is very interested in the whole birth process and i thought it might be good to educate her :) and my watchers insisted on seeing it!

i have put a mature content on this mainly because i am pretty sure SOMEONE will go mental over this

I gotta admit, it does look like something out of the Sigourney Weaver Alien movies...but I admire it for what it is and what it's done! Interesting lighting scheme...it's almost like you wanted it to look...well...look at it! haha

My pleasure. How did you make that painful looking organ, or where did you get it?:)

the womb is where a baby grows inside a woman ;)

Oh. That not scary. If I was too young to here this, it be too unnecessary. I'm 20, and it's okay.:) If I have kids one day, I'd keep my mouth shut about my future wife's womb. I will not talk about it to them. By the way, what did you with that placenta?:)

wombs aren't strange, scary or embarrassing, its just another organ like lungs or liver, i dont see why you cant talk about it  you are never too young to learn about how amazing our bodies are!

i didnt do anything with the placenta, it was taken away by the midwife and most likely destroyed in medical waste :)

this is really startling, in the best of ways. it's like the most raw thing anyone could ever photograph to conceptualize life. and, like you, i keep thinking that someone somewhere is probably going nuts over this, but no matter how i think about it, it's just not offensive at all. rather, it's intriguing and beautiful.

(when i saw the thumbnail i did think it was an aquatic life form, though lol)

childbirth as wonderful and magical as it is, is also pretty icky. and placentas are not attractive at all. though kudos to you for taking a photo after all of that hard work.

Oh wow. You know, I have 3 of my own but to be totally honest I had no idea what the placenta looked like! This is an amazing photo...

to think someone might go postal over it is unfathomable...it's birth, life.

Fabulous photo.

I do not in any way mean this offensively.. but my first reaction is something like, "Oh my god... WTF!?? That came out of you!?!?!"

:o

It kind of reminds me of the movie Alien.....
It's an amazing photo... and it disturbs me to no end because it's real.... I'm kind of awe struck here.
